Johnny Goggles Music – About Us

Johnny Goggles Music CDs and Records

We specialise in promo CD releases, rare and not so rare items, collectables and deletions, from indie, electro and punk to folk, pop and rock.

Located in Royton, near Manchester, England, we started as a full time online business in 2007. We initially started trading on ebay in 2003.

Please note:  We are a mail order / on-line only store. We have no physical high street shop.
We do not accept personal visits as stock is stored elsewhere.

If you wish to be added to our weekly email newsletter, contact us at john@johnnygogglesmusic.co.uk and please include any artists you wish particular updates on.

A Note About Our Products:
We only sell promo CDs/DVDs obtained from ABSOLUTELY 100% TRUSTED suppliers within the music industry. Promo CDs are a product produced by record companies to promote future releases.

We DO NOT sell copies, bootlegs or home ripped CDs, ONLY official promo CDs/DVDs supplied by the record companies themselves.
A promo CD/DVD is usually different from the public release. Sometimes (to save costs) they could be pressed on a CDr / DVDr – however, it is still official and 100% genuine from the record company.

Please understand the differences between a promo CD/DVD and a normal publicly released CD/DVD.
Promo CDr’s are often produced by record companies before, or instead of, distribution of a finished promo CD.

Early UK CDr’s were sometimes gold or dark blue in colour. Nowadays, they are usually silver and light blue.

Promos can be in plain white titled sleeves which gives just basic information such as artist, title, tracks, running time and record company logos, but they can also be issued in a picture sleeve with final artwork. Sometimes, they also display a catalogue number and could be just a 1 track, multiple track album samplers or full albums, or even multiple discs to promote boxed sets.

Promo CDs/DVDs are supplied to music magazines, radio stations, reviewers, media etc etc.
Because of the lesser number of these produced, they have a collectable value with fans and collectors.

Sometimes promo releases are for digital / download / vinyl only releases. These are NOT downloaded / ripped CDs/DVDs, but 100% official promo releases issued by the record companies themselves.

Grading Guide:
While we try to be as honest about gradings as much as possible, its a minefield when it comes to getting it right…one person’s “Near Mint” is another persons “VG+”.

For CDs, we always check all items visually and if any surface marks are apparent that we may have doubts as to playing defects, it is played and checked for faults…if there are any faults, we will not sell it – simple.

CD Gradings (Discogs gradings in brackets)

Still Sealed -Never opened, New condition

Mint :In new condition (M)

EX++  : Very very slight scuffs / surface marks on CD or sleeve (NM)

EX+ : Minor surface or scuff marks on CD or sleeve (VG+)

EX  : Some very noticeable surface marks on CD,  but no playing problems. Some very noticeable creasing, wear and tear etc on sleeve (VG)

Vinyl Gradings: (as per Discogs Guidelines)

M: Mint. New Condition. Absolutely perfect in every way.

NM: Near Mint. Near perfect condition. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. Has no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. A sleeve should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects.

VG++: Very Good Plus Plus. Not quite a NM but a very strong VG+.

VG+: Very Good Plus.  A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don’t affect one’s listening experiences.  Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear. In general, if not for a couple things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint.

VG: Very Good. Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Picture sleeves will also be more pronounced towards a VG+ grading.

All items sold are covered with a 7 day money back guarantee if you are not happy with our gradings -or ANY aspect -of your purchase. Please be aware items must be returned in exactly the same condition as received.

FAO Record Label Representatives, Artist Managements, P.R. companies and other affiliated persons:

As you are aware, a promo item is a tool for promoting a future release.

Once the release date has passed, the promo item has served its purpose. It is no longer a promo item for a forthcoming item not yet for sale. It only has a value to a collector or fan of the artist’s music.

We would like to point out that all our stock is purchased (not given) from third parties, and because of this, we are fully entitled to sell on promo items..whatever your wording on the sleeve or item says..

We understand the law. We have had solicitors who fully understand the copyright laws in the UK look into this, explain everything and they confirm nothing is illegal. We have contacted the BPI, and they have also confirmed the above.

We do not knowingly sell promo CDs before it’s release date, as we know this is a legal issue. If you see a promo item for sale on our website that is, as of yet, not released, please let us know asap.
We spend many hours trying to confirm that our items have indeed, seen a release date, but sometimes, this information found is either not found, or more likely, wrong.

If you have any legal documentation that says otherwise to the above, please forward it on and we’ll pass it on to our solicitors for their attention.
